Region 12 Control Section Newsletter, March 2010

Region 12 Control Section Newsletter, March 2010

The proposed Reasonableness Criteria was issued at the SEFRCC Consultation Forum held at the RCC in Fareham on February 18th. It is advised that you read it and provide feedback on any issues or observations you may have for your FBU Rep to take forward to the FBU regional control meeting on 8th April where responses will be collated and taken forward to next consultation forum.

In essence if your journey time to the RCC from your home address is greater than 60 minutes then you are outside the reasonableness criteria and you would not be expected to transfer to the RCC.  Should you be outside the distance and wish to transfer to the RCC you are not prevented to do so as the proposed policy explains.

The proposed policy uses AA Route Planner and Multimap to establish the time to the RCC from your home address. The post code for the RCC is PO14 4LW.  The process of checking the region’s control member’s postcodes will now commence so that we can identify how different members will be affected.

In addition I will run the same process using Transport Direct which offers you a public transport option to plan your journey. The location of the RCC is poorly served by public transport with the nearest bus stop 10 mins away and buses ceasing to operate in the early evening. A journey from Oxford railway station to  arrive at the RCC for a 12 hour shift starting at 0700 would involve leaving the day before at 17:20hrs! If you wish to see the times that I have worked out for you please contact me using the contact form at the footer of this newsletter.

Staff Going Live Plan

You should also be familiar with the ’Staffing for Go Live’ plan which details the processes that will be undertaken in the next two years as we approach cut-over. If you would like further explanation on any aspect of the plan again please contact me. For any members wishing to transfer to the RCC they would do so in March 2012 at the same time Hants and West Sussex’s control close, their staff transfer to the RCC for training and the national network take their calls until they are trained up.

Select Committee Hearing

The CLG Select Committee sat on February 8th to hear submissions about the FireControl Project. The delays, over specification and excessive costs were criticised by FBU General Secretary. Matt Wrack, and also CFOA and the LGA. The second session of evidence saw the Fire Minister keep repeating, in vain attempt to convince himself, that the project will suffer no further delays, provide enhanced capability and value for money.

The hearing was filmed and it is certainly worth clicking here to view some impressive and some incredulous performances!!

And Finally… a date for your diary

If you want to learn more about the work of the FBU in opposing the FireControl project and how we engage at Regional level to secure the best conditions for our members please consider attending the Control Seminar to be held at Wortley Hall on  14th/15th April 2010.
