Support The London FBU Hardship Fund
The FBU in London commenced action short of strike on 24th September 2010 in which FBU London members removed all goodwill, including a ban on overtime working. On the 4th October 2010 the action short of strike was escalated to include, A ban on all temporary promotion and acting up for those attached to the current 9/15 shift pattern. London FBU members are currently receiving deductions of salaries from 20% to 60% for taking part in action short of strike whilst maintaining their agreed contracts of employment; this is nothing more than bullying and harassment in an attempt to divide the workforce. As you can imagine the Brigades decision to unlawfully deduct FBU members salaries will…

LONDON FIREFIGHTERS’ STRIKE TO GO AHEAD AFTER FIRE BRIGADE REFUSES TO WITHDRAW SACKING LETTERS
22 October 2010 LONDON FIREFIGHTERS’ STRIKE TO GO AHEAD AFTER FIRE BRIGADE REFUSES TO WITHDRAW SACKING LETTERS London’s 5,600 firefighters will go on strike at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) morning, and will stay out until 6 p.m., after the London Fire Brigade sent them all letters of dismissal on 11 August. “It is a terrible step to have to take” says Fire Brigades Union general secretary Matt Wrack, who will join the walkout at Euston fire station. “But London’s firefighters feel it is the only step they can now take.” They are taking the action because, on 11 August, the London Fire Brigade formally began the legal process of terminating the employment contracts of 5,600…
Essex Fire Crews say Chief needs a change of heart not just a change of tune.
21 October 2010 Essex Fire Crews say Chief needs a change of heart not just a change of tune. Essex fire crews gave a luke-warm reception today to calls by the chief fire officer for cooperation over the biggest spending cuts in living memory. The call comes after successive years of cuts to numbers of frontline firefighters and 999 services in Essex and without any end in sight to the 16-month long dispute and on-going industrial action. Keith Flynn, Essex FBU Secretary: “We welcome this change of tune by the chief but what we actually need is a change of heart. Ever since the Chancellor’s statement on 22nd June, we’ve repeatedly requested joint meetings with…

Trade Union Co-ordinating Group Briefing 21/20/2010
BIG SOCIETY SAVAGE CUTS Big Society Savage Cuts briefing The Government has indicated that it wants to cut the amount it spends each year by at least £83 billion by 2015 or around 14 percent of all public spending. There are estimates that the cuts announced today, in the Comprehensive Spending Review, could mean that around 490,000 public sector jobs are going to be axed.[1] There have already been cuts in areas such as support for unemployed young people, universities, youth services, legal aid and the Child Trust Fund – affecting some of the most vulnerable people in our society. It is clear that the public cuts will NOT BE FAIR and that any further…

October 20 2010 PRESS RELEASE: Fire Brigades Union warns of 10,000 job losses in Fire and Rescue Service. Ten thousand fire service jobs are under threat from government plans to slash 25 per cent from fire and rescue service budgets over the next four years, the Fire Brigades Union warned today. Responding to the Comprehensive Spending Review, Matt Wrack, general secretary of the FBU, said: “This government seems intent on imposing cuts that will wreak havoc within the fire and rescue service and short change both the public and firefighters. “These pernicious cuts must be fought to defend public safety. They are not inevitable, but politically driven. The FBU will oppose these draconian attacks on…

WOULD YOU TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR FAMILY’S SAFETY?
THE FIRE BRIGADES UNION MEDIA RELEASE: 15 October 2010 WOULD YOU TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR FAMILY’S SAFETY? When London’s firefighters go on strike, the safety of Londoners will be in the hands of an international company whose chief executive officer, John Shannon, receives an annual bonus of £400,000 and salary of £300,000, largely paid for by London council tax payers. This sum would employ more than 20 firefighters, Fire Brigades Union general secretary Matt Wrack said today (Friday). “Last year the company, Assetco, made a £10.8 million increase in profits, again largely wrung from its biggest client, the London Fire Brigade” said Mr Wrack. “Mr Shannon is far from their only fat cat. Many…
