How To Lobby Your MP
Brothers/Sisters, Many of you will be travelling to Westminster on the 21st October for the ‘Part of the Team’ campaign and will be planning to lobby your MP. Please read on for a practical how-to guide. HOW TO LOBBY YOUR MP ‘Lobbying’ means contacting your MP as a constituent, informing the MP of your concerns on an issue and asking the MP to do something. While you can meet the MP in the constituency, in this case the intention is to visit Parliament as part of a lobby organised by the FBU. Berkshire FBU Members, Please find below some of the policies/working groups that the FBU is currently or has recently been consulted upon – 1. Windsor IRMP – proposed shift changes to Windsor. 2. Retained Viability Review – not yet started. Your opinions needed on desired outcomes. 3. Hearing Policy – new policy. A selection of workplace assessments have been agreed. These are now repeatable and quantifiable with the previous competentcy-based elements removed. 4. Driving Speed Limit Policy - looking at both non-blue light driving and how we respond to incidents. 5. Performance & Ability in the Workplace Policy – RBFRS has withdrawn its proposal to dismiss personnel following a single instance of severe poor performance affecting H&S….
Two Firefighters Injured – Berkshire
Two firefighters have suffered minor injuries while tackling a fire at a women’s bail hostel in Berkshire. Crews arrived at about 1600 BST and began fighting the fire which started in the boiler room of the hostel in Coley Avenue, Reading. All the occupants managed to flee. They have been re-housed by the council as the building is badly damaged. The two injured firefighters needed treatment but no-one else was hurt. An investigation has begun. Paul was recently elected as Chair of the Southern Region of the Fire Brigades Union, following on from the role of Region 12 ULR coordinator. He had started this position two years into the project, but he quickly progressed the Southern Region to the fore. South Yorkshire Dispute
SouthYorkshire fire authority says it will sack 744 of its firefighters if they will not accept changes to their contracts of employment. It is the first time mass sackings have been attempted in the fire service. A National Rally has been organised against this disgraceful attack on our members conditions of service which will take place in Barnsley on the 28th September.
