Buckinghamshire FBU & Fire Authority Joint Statement
Following a meeting today between FBU officials and BFRS managers, the following joint statement has been agreed: We recognise that the public sector in the UK will be seriously affected by the global financial climate, and that significant cuts in budgets are being publicly discussed by national politicians of all parties. We are not immune to these financial difficulties, but our joint desire is to keep providing the best fire and rescue service we can within the resources available to us. Our intention is to work together to meet the financial constraints affecting the brigade in the least painful way, to deliver the best service we can, with the support of our workforce. The Fire…

Fire crews fight warehouse blaze
Firefighters worked through the night to tackle a blaze that engulfed a commercial unit in Bletchley. Seven crews were called to a glass and window storage and distribution centre in Simpson Road at 2.31am on Sunday morning (6/9). At its peak, around 45 firefighters fought the blaze. Denis O’Driscoll, area manager, said: “On arrival, firefighters were faced with a well-developed fire in a commercial unit that was already threatening to spread to adjacent units. “The wind was carrying burning embers across the road, so we had to contend with the further danger of another property some distance away becoming involved in the fire. “We worked extremely hard to save these buildings while also trying to…
All members circular: Paul Fletcher
TO: ALL MEMBERS (REGION 12) cc: Brigade Secretaries Dear Brother/Sister PAUL FLETCHER It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that in the early hours of Monday morning Brother Paul Fletcher, of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, collapsed and died whilst attending an incident. Paul was recently elected as Chair of the Southern Region of the Fire Brigades Union, following on from the role of Region 12 ULR coordinator. He had started this position two years into the project, but he quickly progressed the Southern Region to the fore. He was instrumental in assisting the Isle of Wight to become the first F&RS in the UK to achieve the…

If you are able to attend the rally please contact your Branch official asap to find out where your nearest coach will be leaving from. Further details will be posted here as soon as they are announced. IF THIS IS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN IN SOUTH YORKS IT WILL BE COMING TO A BRIGADE…
Bucks 5 Watch Shift Update
At the full CFA meeting in February this year the authority decided to seek to change FBU member’s terms & conditions of employment to a 5 watch duty system starting on the 1st January 2010. Following this FBU members have, quite rightly been inundating Brigade officials with calls. It’s been the main topic of debate around mess tables, fire station branch meetings, the Buckinghamshire Brigade Committee and also the FBU Regional committee. The question that is now constantly reoccurring is; “What’s going on in management/FBU negotiations”? Simply speaking, the reason why very little information has been passed on to FBU members up until now is, we have had nothing of substance to report. The first…
